Oh my gosh is there anything better than pizza? Well yes, actually homemade pizza!
Here are my tried and tested pizza recipes which you can mix up to suit your own tastes. Also don’t be afraid to make your own dough – its a no-brainer once you get the hang of it.
Christine’s Pizza Dough Recipe
- 500g Strong white bread flour
- 7g yeast sachet
- 1 teaspoon caster sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 300ml/½ pint hand-warm water
- 50ml olive oil
Mix the flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a big bowl. Mix the water and oil together, then stir in the flour mixture.
Tip onto a lightly flour dusted surface and knead for 10 minutes. You can use the dough hook attachment on your mixer if you have one.
Lightly grease a large mixing bowl with some oil. Put the dough back in, cover the bowl with a clean tea towel and leave to rise in a warm place until doubled in size – about 1 hour
Divide the dough into 4. Roll a piece of dough to as thin as you can get it on a lightly floured surface. Lift carefully onto a floured baking sheet or pizza stone
Bake for 10-15 minutes, until crisp and golden on top
You can make your own pizza sauce or you can use store-bought. I personally love tomato puree as the tomato base spread thick all over the dough.
You can create all kinds of variations and the list of toppings is extensive. Remember you can have different toppings on each half of the pizza.
Some of my favourites are:
- Tomato sauce, salami, roasted peppers, olives and mozzarella
- Pepperoni, ham, bacon and mushroom
- Four cheese
- Spicy tomato sauce, prawns, red onion and rocket
- Vegetarian – garlic, sweetcorn, peppers, mushrooms, onion and tomato
Serve pizza with salad, garlic bread and sweet potato fries or wedges and you have a feast fit for any budget!
Gosh I am starving now!
What are your favourite toppings? Let me know if you try the dough recipe.
Until next time,
