Top ten products of 2018

I wanted to share with you my top ten must have beauty products of 2018 that have blown my mind. You absolutely need to have at least one of these in your life – if not all of them!

It is doing the rounds at this time of year and it seems that mainly everyone is reflecting back on the year just past. I am reflecting in a strange kind of way as a few things that have been majorly life changing have happened but at the same time I am mad into forward planning as we leave on 9th January to tour America and Canada! Eek!

I will stress that these are in no particular order and I hope that if you try any of them and feel the same or if you want to throw your 2 cents into the ring then hit me up in the comments.

1. Alpha H Liquid Gold

The thought of using acids on my skin prior to this product frightened the life out of me. I simply wasn’t ready for peeling away layers of my skin and apart from my milia, I really like my skin. I am not prone to acne, rosacea or in fact any other skin complaints. My skin is not particularly greasy or dry and in fact I hold the middle ground there with being slightly dehydrated.

My blogging friend Wendie (Lurganista) simply raves about Alpha H and I was lucky enough to be sent some by Cosmestics Online Ireland to try. Well blow me away! It is so nice and I can confirm that it did not make me peel like an onion! It simply made my skin more glowly and less dull. My makeup even sits better now which is a winner for me.

2. Face Halo

I must admit that I am prone to using a face wipe now and again to remove my makeup. When I think about it, its a toss between either sleeping with it on or removing it with a wipe and so I usually choose the wipe. Don’t judge me too harshly as I am sure we have all been there! I have seen other products in the past claim to remove makeup using just water and I have always through “yeah right” I mean if my foundation and mascara is waterproof then how the heck is water on a cloth going to remove that!

Well it seems I was wrong again as Gordons Chemists kindly gifted me the Face Halo during their Black Friday event and its a complete gamecjager for me. Ive even packed it to go travelling and when you are as tight for space as I am then that shows just how good Face Halo actually is!

3. Aimee Connolly “Sculpted by Aimee” Rose Gold Palette

At the start of 2018 I was not a fan of highlighter. I thought I was too old for this plus I have never found a highlighter that seemed to sit well on my face. This was until I discovered the Rose Gold Palette! I literally highlighted EVERYWHERE I could on my face including my nose and cupids bow which I was convinced was for gorgeous pouty lipped beauties!

It seems that the stunning Aimee can indeed give me that beautiful shimmery highlight and glow that I have spent my life looking for!

4. Aimee Connolly Lip Quad

Would you believe that Aimee Connolly has two of her products in my top ten! Well yes because they are FLIPPING AMAZING! This is a lip pencil quad that gives you a choice of four colours within the one pencil! Perfect for handbags and if you are like me and always forget to line your lips then this is the products for you.

I love it and I hope she releases some more shades (I think at the time of writing she has two colour ways – I have the nude version)

5. L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Smooth Blow Dry

My hair is like a mad, crazy, frizzy monster that loves nothing more than to do the opposite of what I ask and at the slightest drop of humidity leap up and make me look somewhat feral! I have tried serums, mousses, hairsprays, leave in conditioners, you name it and I probably have a half used bottle of it somewhere!

I am also super lazy so I hate having to spend hours convincing my hair to play nice. This stuff is perfect for me. I simply wash my hair, spray it into damp, towel dried hair and I don’t even have to blow dry it! My hair is smoother, straighter and actually listens to what I tell it to do! It even worked in the humidity of Portugal during the year! Winner!

6. Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

Its the most #Instagrammable of all the products I have listed on here. It is a cult beauty product and the hype is real people. I had serious FOMO with this product after seeing it appear EVERYWHERE! Mine is from Cult Beauty (which have amazing ranges of products)

It costs a lot at £42 but you simply need the smallest amount. I use mine in a few different ways. Firstly I rub it on and go to bed and use it overnight. Then rinse off in the morning. Feels and smells amazing and no different to a night cream (in fact its probably not as heavy).

Secondly the other way is to rub into face – again you only need about a 2 cm squeeze from the tube if even, and leave for 10-15 mins before removing with a warm/hot flannel. Not too hot or you will damage your skin but on the hot side of warm. Perfect!

7. WetnWild Photo Focus Concealer

This was an eyeopener for me. Probably literally lol. I was so lucky to have attended the WetnWild launch this year (thanks to the Publicity Loft) and it was my first time trying the products.

This little tube of concealer gives superb coverage, as well as being super blendable and velvety on the skin. It contains an anti-flash, light adjusting technology that helps to diffuse the light from cameras and guarantees a matte effect. All this for the small price of £3.99/€4.00 – I mean I spend more on coffee ffs!

Although I am not featuring them in the top ten, the Photo Focus range also boasts a Foundation and a powder which again are mere pennies. They certainly do as they say on the bottle and I am so happy with this concealer.

8. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater

I first experienced facial mists when I attended an Emma Hardie demo at Marks and Spencers at Sprucefield.  I then spent a few weeks researching facial mists online to see what others thought and I came across the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater. It smells mainly of roses but with a clean twist.

When you spritz it onto your face it feels deliciously cooling. On one hand it refreshes your face while boosting moisture and glow. I have literally used full bottle of this from the summer and am about to start into my second. Yes it is that good and I have already repurchased!

9. BPerfect Medium Coconut Tanning Spray

Before I discovered this brand I had all the tanning horrors. The founder, Brendan, is a local lad who started the business from the back of a van and you all know that I love to support local. So I thought I would give it a whirl – I mean how bad could it be?

The answer is “not bad at all” I started with the medium coconut as I am quite pale skinned and was dubious about trying the dark or extra dark versions. It was perfect! It glided onto my skin, and created a perfectly warm glow. I could build this up with a couple of layers giving me control over the colour.

However, I did try the darker shades to see what they were like but I came back to the medium coconut. The coconut smell is amazing and although it did develop a bit of a tanning smell later I simply rinsed off under the shower and et voila!

I love this stuff. BPerfect has also released lots of exciting products this year in the makeup side of the business which I think are amazing as well.

10. Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel

I had first heard about this product when I took the foundation make up course at the Makeup Dept with Pamela Smyth. She swears by Chanel products and the Soleil Tan de Chanel is a firm favourite of hers. I can see why. The velvety cream bronzer adds soft, buildable colour to paler complexions, warming the skin and giving a beautiful flawless glow.

It is impossible to go wrong with this product. Personally, I simply use a blush brush and sweep round the pot before applying in the 3 sequence on the face. It is gorgeous on its own for adding a little colour or perfect for a night out. I  have quite pale skin and I think it works best on my skin but I have seen it on darker tones and it is very subtle but beautiful also.

I was very kindly gifted mine by Debenhams Ireland as a Christmas gift. It is an investment piece but lasts for ages. The cost is £40/€41. I will be repurchasing this.

How amazing are these products! When I started this post I honesty thought that it would be hard to pick ten life changing products. Despite my reservations, it turned out to be really easy and 2018 was definitely the year when I changed my outlook on a lot of things. Well done to all the local Irish businesses who have made the top ten. I love local brands doing well for themselves.

Have you tried any of the products above?
